The new ski season at the Bulgarian resorts of Bansko and Borovets starts on December 17, 2016. This winter will be an anniversary season for Borovets and will be held under the slogan “120 Years from Chamkoria to Borovets.” To celebrate the opening of the anniversary season, a concert featuring Smugglers Collective, Poli Genova, Misho Yosifov and the Brass Association, as well as a performance by DJ Skill, will take place in front of the Rila 4* hotel.
To mark the start of the season in Borovets, lift tickets will cost just 5 leva, while night skiing and ski lessons for children under 12 will be free on December 17.
Bulgaria’s Ministry of Tourism forecasts a 5% increase in the number of tourists during the 2016–2017 winter season. Sofia Airport alone expects 35% more flights than last winter, according to announced flight schedules. Plovdiv Airport also expects an increase in passenger traffic. It is worth noting that more than 660,000 travelers came to Bulgaria for holidays between December 2015 and March 2016.
