Dubai Miracle Garden is the largest flower garden in the world.
Dubai is a record-breaking city when it comes to large-scale tourist attractions, constantly working to create new and even more impressive projects that attract increasing numbers of visitors.
One of these wonders is considered to be the world’s largest flower garden, known as Dubai Miracle Garden. Its grand opening took place on Valentine’s Day in 2013, and it quickly became a favorite place for romantic dates and family walks among both local residents and tourists.
Dubai Miracle Garden, created by Akar Landscaping & Agriculture Company, is a vast oasis in the heart of the arid desert, covering an area of 72,000 square meters. Around 45 million flowers have been planted here, forming spectacular shapes and displaying an incredible variety of colors. About 45 species of plants grow in the garden, most of which were specially brought to the UAE from abroad — including Germany, the United States, Italy, and other countries — so that the creators could bring their ambitious idea to life. Designers from around the world specializing in vertical and horizontal landscaping worked on this Dubai masterpiece of floral art. Local residents and visitors to the capital of the United Arab Emirates call the garden a “piece of paradise” and a “miracle in the desert.”
Petunias take center stage in the floral oasis of Dubai Miracle Garden. They are the flowers most commonly found throughout the garden in a wide variety of arrangements. They are complemented by marigolds, geraniums, calendula, coleus, lobelia, and other ornamental plants.
Every year, designers use the enormous variety of fragrant flowers at Dubai Miracle Garden to create spectacular floral compositions. In the garden’s opening year, 2013, an 800-meter flower wall was built and entered the Guinness World Records thanks to its impressive length. Other attractions well worth seeing include a ten-meter floral pyramid, a clock tower around 15 meters in diameter, birds decorated with flowers, cozy colorful houses with walls made of flowers, windmills, floral arches, boats, and cars specially decorated with different varieties of plants.
While developing Dubai Miracle Garden in the middle of a barren desert, the project’s managers could not ignore environmental concerns, as such a large-scale attraction requires significant water resources. The garden uses modern underground irrigation technology: all plants receive water and fertilizer directly through their roots via drip irrigation lines. This irrigation method saves approximately 75% of water and electricity, while only wastewater is used for irrigation, making a significant contribution to resource conservation. Akar, the creator of the idea, says that his unique artificial park in such an arid location is a vivid example of how the desert can be given new life and made greener through the reuse of wastewater.
The developers also had to protect the plants of the remarkable garden from the negative effects of the environment. For example, trees were planted around the park to protect the delicate flowers from sandy winds.
Dubai Miracle Garden has four kilometers of walking paths, allowing visitors to enjoy all the spectacular sights and wonderful aromas of this diverse floral paradise.
Dubai Miracle Garden also has a Butterfly Garden, which requires a separate entrance fee. Here visitors can see 26 species of beautiful tropical insects originating from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The garden is located in an enclosed, air-conditioned space where butterflies fly freely and visitors can even touch them.
Another remarkable idea created by the designers is the International Garden. It offers visitors an exciting journey through sculptures made of living flowers representing the United Arab Emirates and many other countries around the world, including an upside-down house, the Burj Khalifa, Dutch windmills, and the Eiffel Tower.
The Aromatic Garden at Dubai Miracle Garden gives visitors the opportunity to see aromatic and medicinal plants from more than 200 countries. Visitors can touch them, enjoy their fragrance, and even make tea from fresh flowers. The park also has a children’s playground, a small grocery store, a café, a restaurant, a souvenir shop, and an ice cream shop.
Dubai Miracle Garden has its own rules of conduct: visitors may walk only along designated paths and are not allowed to sit on the grass, pick flowers, or litter.
Dubai Miracle Garden is open to visitors eight months a year. During the hottest period, from June 1 to October 1, it is closed because of the extreme heat. Opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. Admission costs 30 dirhams, while children under three can visit the park free of charge.
Dubai Miracle Garden is located in the Al Barsha area, not far from the Mall of the Emirates shopping and entertainment center, from where the easiest way to reach the attraction is by taxi.
