Interestingly, each building has a specific color assigned to it, and homeowners must obtain permission for it from the local authorities. The condition of these colorful houses and the intensity of their shades are carefully monitored, with their facades repainted whenever necessary to restore their original brightness. According to legend, the vivid colors of the houses have long helped Burano’s fishermen find their way home.
